Safety Comparison

Warranty Comparison

There are almost 19 times as many Ford dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang’s warranty.

Reliability Comparison

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 62 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st, below the industry average.

Fuel Economy and Range Comparison

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford Mustang uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The F-Type requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Mustang has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F-Type doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Suspension and Handling Comparison

The Mustang has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The F-Type’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang’s wheelbase is 3.9 inches longer than on the F-Type (107.1 inches vs. 103.2 inches).

Chassis Comparison

The front grille of the Mustang (except Performance Pack) uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The F-Type doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Mustang uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The F-Type doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space Comparison

The Mustang has standard seating for 4 passengers; the F-Type can only carry 2.

The Mustang has .6 inches more front headroom and 2.1 inches more front legroom than the F-Type Coupe.

Cargo Capacity Comparison

The Mustang Convertible has a much larger trunk with its top down than the F-Type Convertible (11.4 vs. 7.3 cubic feet).

Ergonomics Comparison

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Mustang Premium offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The F-Type doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

With standard voice command, the Mustang offers the driver hands free control of the radio, climate controls and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The F-Type doesn’t offer a voice control system.

Recommendations Comparison

The Ford Mustang outsold the Jaguar F-Type by over 26 to one during 2016.
